Medicus Juniors Performance Update at First Tee “Divot Derby” July 28, 2011
Posted by medicusdestin in News.trackback
This past week was the Divot Derby which is put on by the First Tee of Pensacola and sponsored by Bubba Watson.
Our juniors performed quite nicely at the Derby and following are the results:
In the boys 16-18 age group Brandon finished in 3rd place for the overall and Harrison was 4th. With his 4th place finish, Harrison will be joining Brandon on the 3-man team who will represent the Emerald Coast Junior Golf Tour at the Florida Team Championship. Nice job boys and best wishes.
In the girls 14-15 age group the usual suspects were at the top. Maddy finished first in the age group and was in 3rd place for the overall title. Maddy also shot her personal best nine holes in the final round back 9 as she carded a 2-under 34. She showed again the tenacity to never ever quit fighting. Her front nine 42 would have derailed most golfers but not her. She also learned the important lesson of “GOING FOR IT” on par 5’s. HAHA! Juniors ask her and I am sure she will share.
The girls 14-15 saw Antonia finish 2nd and Hallie 4th. For Antonia she shot her personal best tournament round by carding a 76 in round two. Hallie likewise shot a personal best 84 in round 2. Great job ladies.
In the boys 12-13, Kevin, Brian and AJ (though he does not get a chance to come over as much, I still consider him one on mine!) picked up where a small band of golfers named Brock, Stephen, Tyler and Alex Lucking used to dominate. Kevin, Brian and AJ finished 1, 2 and 3 to lap the field. Awesome!
In the boys 12-13 second flight, Patrick Poate finished in first place. ATTA’ boy buddy!!!!!!
In the girls 12-13 Kasey, who jumps in a hits balls with us from time to time, won the age group. I am waiting for the shoe to drop and for Kasey to approach me and say, “Coach Randy, I’m ready!” LOL!!!!
In First Tee master boys division 13 and under, Kevin was this year’s winner. In the junior master boys 14-15, Bailey finished 5th. Girls 14-15 Hallie finished 1st for the year. Ages 12-13 AJ was first followed by Brian in 3rd place for the year.
I will admit that our First Tee participation is quite low but I think for a very good reason. The level of competition that our kids participate in on the regional and national level is secondary to none. We thank the First Tee and the Emerald Coast Junior Tour for the opportunity for our Medicus Juniors to cut their teeth in tournament play. Job well done by all!
