Though the Medicus Junior Golf Program has seen a reduction in tournament golf due to the school season, our Florida high school juniors are contributing greatly to the success of their respective teams. With only one senior this year, our juniors are laying the foundation for the years to come and what it takes to juggle all the activities associated with academics and athletics.
The program is also growing weekly as the Medicus Junior Training Program provides parents and youth to learn to play a game that can last a lifetime, a venue that provides outdoor activities that gets our youth up and moving and away from all the technology trappings, and an environment where activities and camaraderie can be achieved with kids that have a similar passion. Growth has been such where we have added an assistant to help Coach Chris and myself to assure that the personal touch of training is maintained. In an area where the population is approximately 14,000, at the end of next week we will have over 40 juniors participating in a year round training program. We have been blessed.
With 14 of our golfers ranked in Junior Golf Scoreboard, we strongly believe that we have only scratched the surface to what can be achieved in junior golf on the panhandle of Florida.
The demand has also prompted us to start a beginners program to introduce kids to the game. This program will act as our feeder system into our full blown program. Response has been tremendous. Our goal is to leave no junior behind and to do everything in our power to grow a game which has taken a big hit over the last two years. A diatribe could be written as to the failings of golfdom but we will save that for another date.
